2012年军团在15周年庆的时候预计发行军团之书,将包括军团的方方面面.届时需要各地驻军供稿和提供照片等素材.原文如下

A book on the 501st Legion is an idea that's been floating around for quite a while. I've talked about my idea with Albin a few times and I feel that the time is right to get it going. 2012 will mark the Legion's 15th anniversary and a perfect time to target for the release of the book. That means 2011 is the year to build it. Albin has given his enthusiastic blessing and will help direct the effort.

Instead of a text heavy book, my concept is to tell our story in both words and photos. Emphasis on photographs. The book would be a "coffee table" style book, full color and glossy. Each chapter would have a few paragraphs on the chapter topic, but from there the photos would tell the story. Captions and short sentences would explain the photos. Here is the breakdown of the chapters the book would include:

I. Introduction on the 501st

II. Beginnings - Early history, old photos, text from Albin

III. Global Domination - Garrison and Outposts around the world. Photos showing unqiue locations and the 501st in different cultures.

IV. Costumes - Showcase the creativity and talent in the club. One pic for every costume type. Show armor and costumes being constructed by members.

V. Events - Photos from major and minor events. Rose Parade, Celebrations, LFL events, conventions, local parades, honorary member inductions, etc. Also show impact on the fan community.

VI. Charity - Showcase our charity work. Fundrasing events, graph of dollars raised, R2-KT, hospitable visits, comments from charity reps.

VII. Memorabilia - Patches, cards, coins, t-shirts. Show trading parties, 501st in licensed merchandise, spread of patches.

VIII. Closing chapter. Looking towards the future, sentimental heart tugger.

That's the basic idea. How cool would a two page spread of the 501st at the Great Wall of China be? As time goes on, I'm sure this will morph to include new ideas and new directions. What WON'T change is the group participation this book will require. To make it happen, we'll need the entire 501st to chip in with photographs. The photographs will need to be quality, high resolution (very high in some cases), focused, well captured images.

I'll also need to start looking at printing options. I've checked out some sources, so I know it can be done. Some photo book companies don't offer bulk prices (one book costs the same as 100 books), and they often limit the size. I want a thick hardcover book! If anyone has any leads on this, please let me know.

Don't send any photos to me yet, though. I'll work on a system for submitting photos soon. Meanwhile, start thinking about the project and gather photos on your end. They'll need to be high resolution photos (300 DPI a minimum), so anything currently online will not be suitable for the book. Be sure to include the photographer's name when submissions start, so they can be properly credited.

Please take this back to your garrisons and outposts, too! The more people contributing the better it will be!
